Services Retirement
Due to a limited amount of time to work on non-works things, I’ve had to scale back services that I do for people.
Effective immediately, these services are retired:
-
DNS hosting
- Consider Amazon AWS Route 53. 50c/month/zone for the first 25 zones, then gets cheaper. API and CLI driven.
- Anyone using my domain registration services (really, resold Tucows services) can use https://domains.gigo.com/ to configure DNS for basic needs. No API, but for a single domain or two, good enough. Be sure to install their default name servers into the domain.
-
Mail hosting
- High quality mail hosting has long ago moved to Google
- “username@free.gigo.com” is being shut down
- Everyone impacted should already have been notified
-
Web hosting
- For simple sites, Amazon S3 can host it for you. If you want SSL, then add Certificate Manager and CloudFront.
- Gallery hosting, I’m using “thumbsup.github.io” to generate static sites to upload to Amazon S3.
- Anything more complex, I .. don’t have any specific suggestions.
-
Guest Shell
- I plan on eventaully offering a guest shell that’s throw-away; something that can provide basic ping and traceroute but is othewrise not a persistent home directory unix account. More info when I hjave it, ETA is “summer”.
-
VM hosting
What’s staying around?
- Email users using @gigo.com (hosted on Google) stays in place.
- test-ipv6.com related activiites stay.
