A slide rule? No way!

Flying is definately making me relearn skills I haven't had to use in over 15 years. And, it is making me learn new ones, ones I'd never ever expected to seriously have to learn. Like, the slide rule. See the wikipedia's entry on the E6-B flight "computer". Whoda thunk?

I think the jury's still out on what I'll prefer to pack, but this device does seem to hold a morbid curiousity with me.

Yo Jason

The E6b is the nuts - I prefer the circular slide rule to any digital tool, mainly because i can use it quickly.

Now, the next best thing since sliced bread: the circular plotter (protractor) - actually, the rotating kind (e.g. ASA CP-R LX)... then you can orient the plotter as needed on the sectional and ensure accurate readings without needing to align the 'cheapo' plotter directly on a lat/long line.

If you're flying out of KSQL, tell everyone out there I said hello... and try not to lose an engine over oracle like i did! :)

PANTS!

Yo Palmer! I'll be flying out of KSAC primarilly, but KSQL does sound interesesting once I'm doing crosscountry. Jim lives a mile or so from there.

Yea, Jim lives (or at least used to, haven't talked to him in ages) real close to SQL... but if it's food you're looking for, check into Harris Ranch (3O8) in Coalinga - you pick out the slabs of beef you want, they will vacuum seal and put 'em on dry ice for the return flight. Little 1800 foot long runway or something - really cool place.

Hope everything's going well for you out there - re-remembered this site the other day when i was searching for the old inkt bartab image... heh
